Body fillers are substances that are injected under the skin to increase volume or correct the shape of certain areas of the body. There are different types of body fillers, but the most common are dermal fillers and soft tissue fillers.
- Dermal fillers:
These are made from materials such as hyaluronic acid, synthetic collagen or calcium hydroxyapatite. They are primarily used to smooth wrinkles, fine lines and folds in the skin, as well as to add volume to areas such as the lips or cheeks. Hyaluronic acid is one of the most popular due to its ability to retain water and provide volume naturally.
- Soft tissue fillers:
These fillers are made from biocompatible materials such as autologous fat (fat from the body’s own), which is removed from areas such as the abdomen or thighs using liposuction and then injected into the desired areas . This type of filler is used to increase volume in areas such as the buttocks, breasts or hands.
The body filler injection procedure is generally performed in the office. First, the area to be treated is cleaned and disinfected. Local anesthesia is then administered to minimize discomfort during the injection. The filler is carefully injected into the subcutaneous tissue layer or into specific areas depending on the treatment goal. After the injection, gentle massage may be performed to evenly distribute the filler and achieve the desired result.
It is important to note that the results of body fillers are temporary and generally last from several months to several years, depending on the type of filler used and the patient’s individual reaction.
